About A2

Our Mission

A2 brings together, supports, and organizes alongside our member organizations — over 450 grassroots groups in every U.S. state and territory — to fight for environmental protection and health. Our members and the frontline communities they represent face overlapping threats, from toxic waste and industrial pollution to flooding, drought, wildfire, extreme heat, and reckless development — pressures that are increasingly compounded by climate change and historic underinvestment. We provide organizing, capacity-building, policy, research, and nationally coordinated advocacy support to those most impacted by these cumulative harms.

Our Support

With A2’s support in connecting our members with resources and outstanding partners with expertise in engineering, hydrology, public health, planning, and the law, frontline communities have successfully halted developments in climate-vulnerable areas; implemented nature-based hazard mitigation strategies; organized home buyouts; and pushed for clean-ups at Superfund sites, toxic landfills, and petrochemical plants. We also organize directly alongside members in six states and provide capacity-building support, including grant writing assistance, trainings and workshops, toolkits and guides, as well as policy, research, and communications support.

Beyond everything else, our work consists of listening and responding to our frontline leaders. Their experience, knowledge, and solidarity offers a clear path toward environmental protection and social justice.

What’s in a Name?

The Anthropocene is a term used to describe an era in which human activity is reshaping Earth’s climate, ecosystems, air, water, and land. For communities on the front lines of environmental harm, this is not an abstract concept. It is lived reality. The term reflects the scale of the crisis—but it also points to the possibility of change. The systems driving pollution, climate disruption, habitat loss, and environmental injustice were created by human decisions. People working together can change them.

Anthropocene Alliance—A2—exists to support that collective work: community organization, environmental protection, and social and climate justice.
